The line that stood out to me this morning was from Micah: “You, Bethlehem-Ephrathah, too small to be among the clans of Judah.” Something so small and insignificant became the place where God did something that changed everything.
That got me thinking about how we can feel pretty small sometimes and wonder what difference the little things we do really make. But every one of us is creating ripples. The way we treat our wives and kids, the way we handle somebody at work, the words we say, even the attitude we bring into a room. Those ripples go out farther than we probably realize, especially with the people closest to us.
And those ripples can be good or bad.
I saw some of that in myself yesterday. I got aggravated when people close to me didn’t act the way I wanted them to. Then this morning, when I asked what I needed to surrender, I wrote down “attachment to winning.” I don’t always have to win the argument, prove my point, or get somebody to do things my way. Sometimes the better question is simply, what kind of ripple am I creating here?
Today is the feast of the Nativity of Mary. Her yes to God probably looked pretty small to the rest of the world. But we know how far that ripple went.
So today I’m praying that God helps me send out mostly good waves. To do the little things well, love the people He puts in front of me, and trust Him with how far those ripples go.
I pray each of you receives the grace you need today.
Keep up the good fight.
I’m praying for you. Please pray for me.
