Keep Trying to See Him

“The world forever stays.”

The whole first reading can seem a little depressing, but there is a lot of truth in it. There is nothing new under the sun. Problems come and problems go. The things that seem so important today will eventually pass.

But it made me think… I don’t just disappear when this life is over. God created me for eternal life with Him.

So the question I found myself asking was pretty simple: What am I doing for eternity?

That brought me to Herod in the Gospel. He had heard about Jesus, was confused about who He was, and “kept trying to see him.”

That seemed strange to me. Herod was essentially the king. If he really wanted to see Jesus, it seems like he could have made it happen.

And that made me turn the question back on myself.

How hard am I really trying to see Jesus?

It is easy for me to say that I want to be with God for eternity. But do I really seek Him now? Or do I let all the problems, worries, successes, and other things that will eventually pass take up most of my attention?

So my prayer today is simple. Lord, I want to spend eternity with You. Give me the grace to keep trying to see You, and help me really try.

How hard are you trying to see Jesus?

I pray you get the graces you need today.

Keep up the good fight.

I’m praying for you. Please pray for me.
