More Than I Know

Something caught my attention in the Gospel this morning. Jesus was praying. Then He asks the disciples, “Who do you say that I am?” And Peter answers, “The Christ of God.”

I started wondering if those things were connected.

Did Jesus pray and somehow the Father enlightened Peter? I don’t know. Luke doesn’t tell us that. But in Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus tells Peter that flesh and blood did not reveal this to him, but His Father in heaven did.

That wonder connected with Ecclesiastes for me. It says God has “put the timeless into their hearts,” but we can never discover from beginning to end all the work God has done.

How much is God doing in us that we don’t even know about?

That made me think about yesterday. I was supposed to say a few words in front of about 350 people, and honestly, I didn’t really know what I needed to say. So I prayed and asked God to give me something that might actually be helpful.

Then I never got called on.

I still don’t know why, and maybe I never will. But looking back, I actually see some grace in it. I didn’t need to speak. It wasn’t about me.

I can look back and count my blessings. I can try to recognize where God has worked in my life. But I will never know all of it. God is doing far more than I can see.

So my prayer today is for humility. Lord, help me surrender my desire to be important. Help me listen and be curious. Help me be present and care for the people You put in front of me. And help me be thankful for all You are doing, especially the things I may never know about.

What might God be doing in your life that you don’t even know about?

I pray you get the graces you need today.

Keep up the good fight.

I’m praying for you. Please pray for me.
