Ironclad Hope

Oh, if I could have Job’s faith.

After everything Job had been through, he says, “Whom I myself shall see: my own eyes, not another’s, shall behold him.”

Wow. That is some ironclad faith and hope.

I’m not there.

I’m trying, and I think I’m getting closer, but doubt still creeps in. Maybe that is why the words from the Psalm seemed so important this morning: “Wait for the LORD with courage; be stouthearted, and wait for the LORD.”

Be stouthearted.

I like that. It doesn’t mean I won’t have doubts. It means I keep trusting God even when I can’t see everything clearly.

Then Jesus sends the disciples out two by two. I think He did that for a reason. We aren’t meant to make it alone. Especially because He tells them they are going out like lambs among wolves.

There are fairy tales where everybody lives in peace and joy and everything turns out just right. Maybe that is what we sometimes think the Kingdom of God should look like.

But we aren’t there yet. There are still wolves. There is still suffering. There are still plenty of reasons for doubt to creep in.

And yet Jesus says, “The Kingdom of God is at hand for you.”

The Kingdom is here, but it isn’t complete yet.

Maybe that is exactly why I need Job’s kind of hope. I don’t have to see everything made right today to trust where this is going. I don’t need to see the whole building. I just need to take care of the stone God has put in front of me, stay in the moment, and trust Him.

So my prayer today is for a little more of Job’s faith. Lord, when doubt creeps in, help me wait with courage. Help me be stouthearted. Help me receive Your peace and trust that Your Kingdom really is at hand.

And help me believe that one day I too will see You with my own eyes.

Can you trust that God’s Kingdom is at hand even when you can still see the wolves?

I pray you get the graces you need today.

Keep up the good fight.

I’m praying for you. Please pray for me.
