No Words, Just Compassion

Yesterday, I noticed God’s grace in something pretty simple. A hug. No words… just compassion.

That came back to me this morning as I read Job say, “I have dealt with great things that I do not understand.”

There are things that happen in this life that I simply do not understand. Some are terrible. Some are unbelievably good. And I know I can struggle with both. When things are bad, I can worry and try to control the outcome. When things are good, I can start thinking too much of myself.

But the Psalm says, “All things serve you.”

That doesn’t mean everything that happens is good or that God wants evil to happen. It means none of it is outside of God’s providence. Even in the things I cannot understand, I can still trust Him.

Then Jesus tells the disciples not to rejoice because the spirits are subject to them, “but rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”

That really seemed to pull it all together for me.

My hope cannot be in understanding everything. It cannot be in controlling everything. It cannot even be in everything going the way I want it to go.

My hope has to be in God.

There are things in my life I want to fix that I simply can’t fix. I can worry about them, try to control the outcome, or I can trust God and take care of what He has actually entrusted to me.

Maybe sometimes that means I don’t need the right words at all.

Maybe it is just a hug.

So my prayer today is that I can surrender what I cannot control and be a good steward of what God has actually entrusted to me. Lord, help me to be present, supportive, and full of hope. Help me remember that no matter what happens here, my real hope is in You and in having my name written in heaven.

What are you trying to control today that God may simply be asking you to trust Him with?

I pray you get the graces you need today.

Keep up the good fight.

I’m praying for you. Please pray for me.
