He Knows My Thoughts

Sometimes I get so caught up in doing the right things that I forget why I’m doing them in the first place.

That was on my mind this morning as I read Paul’s words in Galatians. He reminds us that the law does not depend on faith. Following the rules and checking the boxes isn’t what saves us. It’s faith in Jesus Christ.

And then something in the Gospel caught my attention.

“But he knew their thoughts.”

Jesus knew what those questioning Him were thinking. That made me stop and think. He knew Peter’s thoughts. He knew Mary Magdalene’s thoughts. And He knows mine.

Every one of them.

Looking back, I’m a little ashamed of some of my thoughts over the years. I know I’ve gotten better, but I’ve still got plenty of room to grow. And there’s something humbling about knowing that Jesus sees all of it.

I also found myself wondering about the rest of the Gospel. Jesus talks about a strong man and an unclean spirit returning with seven others. I don’t fully understand it yet, and I want to spend more time with it.

But maybe there’s a connection here. It’s not enough to simply clean up my thoughts or go through the motions of being a good Christian. I need to keep growing in faith and allowing Christ to fill my heart.

Today, I’m reminded that even good habits can become nothing more than boxes to check.

So my prayer today is that I don’t just do the things a faithful man does, but that I become more faithful in everything I do.

Are you simply going through the motions of faith, or are you allowing Jesus to change your heart?

I pray you get the graces you need today.

Keep up the good fight.

I’m praying for you. Please pray for me.
