Children of God

It is said that God has no grandchildren. We are all His children.

That got me thinking about how grandparents sometimes spoil their grandchildren. They let them get away with things that parents wouldn’t. But raising children takes more than just making them happy. It takes love, correction, responsibility, and sometimes a little tough love.

In today’s first reading, St. Paul reminds us that through Christ, we all can become children of God through faith and baptism. Not just the Jews, but Gentiles too. We are all invited into God’s family.

But being His children comes with something more.

Jesus says in the Gospel, “Blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it.”

That word observe stood out to me.

It isn’t enough just to hear God’s Word. We need to live it. And the Psalm reminds us to seek the Lord constantly.

But what does that look like?

I think it can look different every day. We need to seek God, listen to what He is asking of us, and then try to do it.

For me, today, that means being present.

I am enjoying some time away, and I know how easily I can get caught up in planning, checking emails, or trying to make sure everything goes just right.

But maybe God isn’t asking me to make everything perfect. Maybe He is simply asking me to be present and enjoy the gifts He has given me.

So my prayer today is that I may hear God’s Word, recognize what He is asking of me, and have the faith to follow through.

What might God be asking you to do today that you have already heard but haven’t quite put into practice?

I pray you get the graces you need today.

Keep up the good fight.

I’m praying for you. Please pray for me.
