Break the Yoke of Slavery

Have you ever left your phone somewhere and felt anxious because you couldn’t check it? Or found yourself scrolling through social media for no particular reason?

I got to thinking about that this morning. How much of our lives are spent worrying about what we might be missing?

St. Paul tells us to stand firm and not submit again to the yoke of slavery. He was talking about the freedom Christ gives us, but it made me wonder about the things we allow to control our lives today.

Our phones, social media, the daily grind. Even our worries about tomorrow.

I know I struggle with wanting to know the future. I want to know how things will turn out, especially for the people I love. But sometimes that desire for certainty keeps me from being present today.

Then Jesus says something interesting in the Gospel. The people want a sign, but He tells them no sign will be given except the sign of Jonah.

How often do I want God to show me how everything is going to work out before I simply trust Him?

Maybe that’s another kind of slavery.

I’ll be honest, I’m not really feeling this reflection today. But maybe that’s part of the lesson. I don’t always have to understand what God is doing or see where something is going. Sometimes I just need to be faithful and trust Him with the rest.

So I’m sharing it anyway. Maybe there’s something here someone else needs to hear today.

So my prayer today is simple. Lord, help me break free from the things that distract me, especially my need to know tomorrow. Help me be a good steward of what You’ve entrusted to me today. Give me the faith to stand firm and the grace to be present.

What is keeping you from being fully present to what God has given you today?

I pray you get the graces you need today.

Keep up the good fight.

I’m praying for you. Please pray for me.
