“Created in Christ Jesus for the good works that God has prepared in advance, that we should live in them.” (Ephesians 2:10)
“The Lord made us, we belong to him.” (Psalm 100:3)
“Thus will it be for the one who stores up treasure for himself but is not rich in what matters to God.” (Luke 12:21)
Today, these three verses practically jumped off the page at me. I felt called to reflect on one simple question: What am I doing with the graces and blessings God gives me?
Starting with the first reading, St. Paul’s words made me think about our charisms, those special gifts the Holy Spirit gives each of us to serve God and others.
Think about that for a minute. God has good works He wants us to accomplish, and He gives us gifts to help us do them. But those gifts aren’t just for us. They’re meant to be shared with others, just as Jesus shares His gifts with us.
Then in the Gospel, Jesus tells the parable of the rich man who had an abundant harvest. God had blessed this man with more than he needed. Why? Well, that’s God’s prerogative. We don’t know why, and quite frankly, it doesn’t matter.
What matters is what the man did with those blessings.
Instead of sharing his abundance, he decided to build bigger barns and store it all away for himself.
And that made me think about the blessings God has given me. Not just material things, but the gifts, talents, and opportunities He has entrusted to me. Am I using them for the good of others, or am I keeping them for myself?
Then the psalm brings it all together.
“The LORD made us, we belong to him.”
We belong to God. And so do our blessings, our charisms, and even the good works He has prepared for us.
None of it is really ours. We are simply entrusted with it.
So my prayer today is for detachment. Lord, help me remember that everything I have comes from You. Help me use the gifts You have given me to serve others rather than myself. Keep me from holding on to what was never mine to begin with.
What gifts or blessings has God entrusted to you that He may be asking you to share with someone else?
I pray you get the graces you need today.
Keep up the good fight.
I’m praying for you. Please pray for me.
