Moving the Rocks God Gives Me

Paul says this morning, “God caused the growth.” That stood out to me.

Sometimes I look at everything God has put in front of me like a big pile of rocks. I start moving them one at a time, but after a while I look up and think, “Lord, are You doing anything here? Why does it feel like I’m the only one moving this pile?”

If I’m honest, there’s some pride in that, but probably even more impatience. I want to see progress. I want to see the pile getting smaller.

But Paul reminds me that my job is to plant and water. God causes the growth.

Then in the Gospel, Jesus has people looking for Him and plenty of work still to do, yet He goes off to a deserted place to pray. The work wasn’t finished, but He returned to the Father anyway.

Maybe that’s my reminder today. My job is to hold the plumb line, pick up the rock God puts in front of me, and put it where He wants it. Then return to prayer instead of getting overwhelmed by the whole pile.

I pray each of you receives the grace you need today.

I’m praying for you. Please pray for me.
